Wednesday What Are You Reading

New York Mosaic (Isabel Bolton). This is a thing that I picked up in a charity shop, having done my usual trick of scanning the shelves for the Virago apple. It is a three-in-one (I dislike these, because heavy), of which I have finished the first one, Do I Wake Or Sleep - a rather wonderful mid-20th century stream-of-consciousness. Loved it; it seemed to fit my current mood exactly.
Les Miserables: I am still with the Bishop of Digne.
Recently finished
Impossible Saints (Michèle Roberts) - beautiful, sensual, uneasy book about women and spirituality. I did find the feminist fairy-tale saints' lives, which punctuated the main story, a little bit irritating at times, largely because they got in the way of Josephine, whom I loved.
The Abbess of Crewe (Muriel Spark), sent to me by my mother because I would 'like the church politics'. Which yes, I do, but I do hope she doesn't think church politics actually works like this. (At least, no PCC meeting that I've ever been to, etc, etc.) It turns out to be a satire on Watergate, which (to my shame?) I had to Wikipede to get most of the jokes.
Up next
Big Brother (Lionel Shriver) - the next HQ book club choice. Not looking forward to this one; I may pretend it isn't happening for another month or so...
Other media
Still enjoying The Musketeers, even if the writing feels a little clumsy at times. The great thing about it is that I can knit in front of it, which I can't with The Bridge. It is amusing to debate these with Tom afterwards, while we wash up.
